High Street vs High End

High Street vs High End

High Street vs High End by ellie-turnermail featuring Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation and Estee Lauder Double Wear

I've been a firm fan of Bourjois' Healthy Mix Foundation for years, having gone through and repurchased several bottles, but after coming to the end of my most recent one, I decided to spread my makeup wings and give a new product a go.

Since foundation provides the base for your whole face, and is (in my opinion) the deciding factor between a glowing, even success or a patchy, orange fail, I don't mind paying extra for quality. So I set about looking for a high end foundation, and after hearing tonnes of recommendations for Estee Lauder's Double Wear, I popped down to my Local boots to get a sample. I'm usually a shade 53 in Bourjois' Healthy Mix and the lady at the counter matched my colour to the shade Tawney.

After trying it on my face for a full day, I'll be honest, the staying power is incredible (this stuff does not budge, even without setting it with powder), yet on my skin (which is normal to dry) I found the formulation drying and almost sticky. I prefer a dewy finish and this leaves my face decidedly matte, plus the colour (which looked fine under the shop lighting) appears that tell-tale orange under a natural light. This could be easily sorted as there's lots of other shades to choose from. But, for me, I feel that my beloved Bourjois remains unbeaten as the best foundation for my skin type in providing a glowing, dewy, youthful look. Whilst Double Wear, £27.50 provides a fuller coverage (if you are blemish prone, it would be a god send), Healthy Mix, £10.99, feels much lighter and more comfortable on my skin and I LOVE it's fruity fragrance.

That's not to say that Double Wear is a write off as my friend (with normal to oily skin) regularly wears it and looks flawless, plus the packaging is so darn pretty! But for drier skin, I'm yet to find a product to kick my favourite foundation off its little pedestal and at less than half the price, who can complain.

So for this one, the winner = HIGH STREET.

Love Elle
